Gareth “Speed Man” Cole – OR2 National CHAMP!

There is no denying that Gareth Cole is a world-class offroad competitor. His recent achievement of being crowned OR 2 Champion and 3rd overall in the SA Xcountry offroad championship bears testament to that – But its not only his prowess behind the handlebars that has earned him our utmost respect.

Growing up on farm in Southern KZN, Gareth started riding bikes at a young age, showing talent which led him to compete at national level. However, his race-craft today can be attributed to more than just pure talent, but rather through the grit and dedication he’s learnt working the fields.

His skill and determination to the sport is unparalleled. Riding as a humble privateer, consistently finishing races amongst the leading factory-sponsored, full-time riders – whilst holding down a regular job in the family business is commendable.

Gareth’s performance in the 2018 National Offroad Championships was nothing short of sterling.

Round 1, Gareth showed his determination to the sport, by taking a bye in the race due to his wedding that same day. However, in true Cole fashion, he drove to the race, did the time trial, then raced to hospital with his injured brother and even got back in time to get married. That’s dedication and speed!
Round 2 Ceres 400 in the Cape, Gareth bagged a 1st in class and 4th overall.
Rnd 3 Desert,  2nd in class. 6th overall.
Rnd 4 Desert, 1st in class and 4th overall.
Rnd 5 Piggs Peak 400 Swaziland, 1st in class. 4th overall
Rnd 6 Carletonville, 3rd in class and 7th overall, enough to bag him the OR2 Championship plate and and impressive 3rd overall!

Previously Gareth has also showed his mettle in past years – 2013 2nd in silver Roof of Africa, 2014 KZN Xcountry 200cc Champion, 2014 KZN Xcountry Overall Champion, 2016 15th gold Roof of Africa and 2016 KZN Xcountry open class Champion.

We’re proud to have Gareth represent KTM Durban and wish him all the best for 2019!
